'Since the programme began, the mlearning project has provided an invaluable
learning opportunity for some of the young people that I work with to
re-engage with formal education/learning; there have been some notable
successes. It has been good to be able to suggest an innovative and flexible
learning programme which places student needs and learning styles at the
core of its delivery. Furthermore, the accessibility, support, flexibility
and professionalism of the tutors has been hugely beneficial.'

Success. Matthew finds a job.

One of the first mLearners, Matthew Heggie, joined the Project in November 2005. He wanted to full time employment and was interested in IT and web-design. His study involved work placement activity in Pembrokeshire College where he was able to improve his IT and web authoring skills.

Part of his study also saw him searching for full time employment and he found the use of his PDA invaluable. In his own words “It has allowed me to phone a lot more employers than I could have afforded on my own budget. I have also had unlimited access to helpful internet sites like …, job search sites, and many more that have helped me in my career choice. With help from my mLearning Tutor I have gained the confidence and many skills to contact employers and go to interviews. I have had lots of help updating my CV and writing cover letters which have helped me apply for better jobs.” Matthew now has a full time job working with Pembrokeshire County Council.

Matthew used his PDA to develop his artistic talents, and these are some of his pictures. Matthew found that “In general the mLearning course has been very beneficial to me and I would recommend it to any one who is under twenty five and unsure of where they stand with a career choice.”
